Fort Fisher Engagement Session

HEYWARD + EMILY
Fort Fisher, NC

Every year since I was little, my family has vacationed at Oak Island, NC. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful area with so much to offer. A short ride north is the old Civil War Memorial: Fort Fisher. While the history of this location is impressive, the beauty of it is breathtaking. Hidden passageways in the overgrowth, dancing trees, untouched beaches, and rocks that create magic when the waves crash upon them. All that to say: Fort Fisher is a photo location that dreams are made of, so I of course jumped on the opportunity to capture Emily and Heyward’s engagement session when asked.

Usually when a couple books a destination location I am the one traveling to them. Since my family was already vacationing in the area, these two drove from Charlotte, NC to meet me. I was incredibly honored they would make the 4 hour drive just to shoot with me.

Saying I am proud of this session is an understatement. To me, there is so much emotion portrayed in these images we created together. Ive always felt that the NC coast held a special feeling of romance (maybe it’s because of all Nicolas Sparks’ books). I feel like these images bring that forth.

I hope you feel that when you view these images and I hope enjoy them as much as I do.

I am very honored that this image was featured in RangeFinder Magazine’s Photo of the Week. Click the link below to ready the article and more of what I say about shooting in water!

“Taking water portraits can be intimidating when you are carrying around thousands of dollars of equipment,” she says. “As I am shooting, I am staying alert to the tide. I want to keep myself safe as well as my couples. Once I feel comfortable,  I forego keeping warm and dry and get my shot. Usually, my favorite shots are the ones I had to sacrifice a little extra for.”
